The Ramayana Trail in Sri Lanka: private tours for families from India
Sites linked to the Ramayana, planned as a private family trip with your own driver.
For many visitors from India, Sri Lanka is Lanka of the Ramayana. Across the island, temples, caves and waterfalls are linked to the story of Rama, Sita, Hanuman and Ravana. We plan these sites as a private trip for your family, at your pace, with your own car and driver.
Places on the trail
- Seetha Amman Temple, Seetha Eliya (near Nuwara Eliya): where Sita is believed to have been held in the Ashok Vatika. A small Hindu temple beside a mountain stream.
- Divurumpola: the place traditionally linked to Sita’s trial by fire (Agni Pariksha).
- Ravana Falls and Ravana Cave, near Ella.
- Hakgala Botanical Garden: linked by tradition to the Ashok Vatika.
- Munneswaram Temple, Chilaw: one of the island’s oldest Shiva temples.
- Koneswaram Temple, Trincomalee: a clifftop Shiva temple.
- Nainativu Nagapooshani Amman Temple near Jaffna, for those who also visit the north.
How we plan it for you
- Vegetarian and Jain meals arranged at hotels on request.
- Temple timings: we plan your days around puja times.
- Short drives for senior travellers, with comfortable hotels.
- Combine with: Kandy and the Temple of the Tooth, tea country, and a few days on the beach.

- You need an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) before you travel. Apply only on the official website, eta.gov.lk, where you can also see whether it is free for your nationality.
