Ayurveda in Sri Lanka: combine a round trip with real rest

A round trip first, then a week of rest with Ayurveda treatments. How it works and what to look for.

Ayurvedic herbs

Ayurveda is a traditional system of medicine from South Asia, and in Sri Lanka it is part of everyday life. Many visitors combine a round trip with a stay at an Ayurveda resort: first the sights, then real rest.

Wellness or a full Ayurveda cure?

  • Ayurveda wellness: a few treatments during a beach holiday, such as massages with herbal oils and steam baths. Good for two to four days.
  • An Ayurveda cure (often called Panchakarma): a programme planned by an Ayurveda doctor after a consultation, with daily treatments, a special diet and often no alcohol. Most resorts recommend at least 10 to 14 days.

How we plan it

We suggest doing the round trip first and ending with the Ayurveda stay, so you go home rested. We work with Ayurveda resorts on the south and west coast and help you choose one that fits your goal and budget.

Ayurveda resorts have their own prices, which depend on the resort and the length of the programme. We include them in your quote.

What to look for in a resort

  • A qualified Ayurveda doctor on site who sees you at the start and during your stay.
  • A treatment plan written for you, not one standard package for everyone.
  • Fresh, vegetarian Ayurvedic food.
  • Quiet surroundings.

If you have a medical condition or take medication, talk to your own doctor before you book a cure.
